Peace, Pies & Prophets

Peace, Pies & Prophets

Poster-March-7_bleed_11x17.pdf (1 page)Peace Pies and Prophets has been called a participatory wonder, a wonderful blend of consciousness-raising and laughter, community-building at its best and just a whole lot of fun!

Since March 2012 Ted & Company has been collaborating with Christian Peacemaker Teams and various local peacemakers in the areas we’ve visited to bring the Peace Pies and Prophets tour to communities across the US and Canada, raising funds and awareness for peace. The evening includes the show I’d Like to Buy an Enemy and is interspersed with a pie auction. This auction is of a slightly different breed. It is a “stealth auction”, where an airhorn  goes off and actors Ted Swartz and Tim Ruebke don their special hats and auction off handcrafted pies.

The tour is a fundraiser for Christian Peacemaker Teams and has raised over $180,000 in offerings and pie auctions since 2012. Perhaps more importantly it has engaged people to talk not just about the show, but how we might effect change in our world—to “export” peacemaking to a thirsty world. Both the satire and entertainment of the show itself and the stories of Christian Peacemakers Teams, challenges each of us to consider how we can promote a changed narrative in our world, on a local and global scale. Get a taste of the show by watching our promo video for I’d Like to Buy an Enemy.

The first Peace Pies and Prophets tour of 2012 in Eastern Pa was a three day event in three cities, Akron, Philadelphia and Souderton. Okay, one city, a large town and a hamlet. A marvelously disparate theater tour — from the buggies of Lancaster county, to the heightened pulse of the theater district of Philadelphia, to the sensible streets of Souderton. If you haven’t seen the documentary about it, check it out!

Subsequent tours have taken Ted & Company and CPT to the US midwest, the west coast and up into Ontario, Canada.

Two generous grants helped subsidize the costs of bringing Peace, Pies and Prophets to communities in 2012, 2013, and 2014.  We’re now looking to book at least four U.S. shows in 2016.  Ask us about what it takes to bring this event to your area!
