Event Description

Special chance to see a live performance of I'd Like to Buy an Enemy, sponsored by EMU's Summer Peacebuilding Institute: A hilarious and poignant satire from Ted&Co, exploring peace, justice, and the American way. Starring Eastern Mennonite University alumnus Ted Swartz and Tim Ruebke, this thought-provoking show allows us to laugh at ourselves, while engaging us to reflect on the influence of America's highly militarized presence in the world, to confront the fear that drives our culture, and to consider how we can work for peace and justice in the U.S. and globally.
WHO: Everyone. Yes, that means YOU! For this performance, we are inviting students and the general public to please join participants of the Summer Peacebuilding Institute.
WHAT: Original comedy satire, "I'd Like to Buy an Enemy"
COST: Free to all Summer Peacebuilding Institute participants; $15 general admission. Seating is limited to the first 200 people.
WHERE: EMU - Lee Eshleman Studio Theater
WHEN: Thursday, June 16, 2016 @ 7:30 pm.
WHY: In the spirit of Jon Stewart, Steven Colbert, and Monty Python, “I’d Like to Buy an Enemy” dives deep into the sacred waters of seriously funny theater. Satire, by its nature, holds up the foibles of a society and shines a light on them, so by laughing at them we demystify and de-power them.
