Event Description

Listening for Grace – Holland, MI

Listening for Grace is coming to Holland, MI on September 15, 2016 at 7:00 pm for a special showing at Hope College, 141 E 12th St, Holland, MI 49423. Sponsored by Hope College Departments of Theater, Music, Communications, Psychology, Religion, Women's and Gender Studies, Sociology and Social Work, English and the student group, GRACES.

In Listening for Grace, Ted Swartz uses his distinctive humor to give voice to our fears and hopes when a faith community engages in questions around sexuality and same-sex relationships. It’s about a father’s journey, a church’s struggle and a search for commonality.

The play follows the story of a widowed father whose son has just come out as gay. Through his relationships with his son, an estranged cousin, people in his church and a pastor who deals with issues of sexuality in the Bible, the main character is challenged by many different viewpoints and experiences.

You may find your story mirrored in one of the characters, calling the Church, and one another, to openness and love.
