Event Description

MEDA presents Theater, the Bible and Tragedy – Lancaster, PA

MEDA's Lancaster Chapter presents Theater, the Bible and Tragedy: A Journey of Persistence and Hope on Saturday March 2, 2013 at Neffsville Mennonite Church, Lancaster PA. Ted Swartz will share from his play Laughter is Sacred Space beginning at 7:00pm. A dessert reception with pianist Roger Haun and Q & A with Ted will follow at 8:00pm

In this gritty, honest, and funny presentation, Ted Swartz will weave stories from his youth as a Mennonite middle child through failed business, young marriage, the seminary and into acting, where he created the theater company, Ted and Lee Comedy, with friend Lee Eshleman. Ted will offer a glimpse into his 20-year friendship and creative partnership with Lee, which ended in 2007.

Ted will explore the paradox of working with a comedic struggling partner while experiencing the absence of God after Lee’s death. This address will reveal the unique journey of working in the theater, church, and business under the shadow of a mental illness, offering hope and humor in a way that only Ted could deliver.

Ted Swartz is a writer and actor who has been mucking around in the worlds of the sacred and profane for over 20 years. Ted is owner and artistic director of Ted and Company TheaterWorks, a professional touring company based in Harrisonburg, VA. As theologian and thespian, Ted creates a space where these two worlds can interact.

$10 per person, payable at the door • RSVP to MEDA by February 22
