Event Description

Peace, Pies & Prophets – Durham, NC

Peace Pies and Prophets is on tour and coming to Durham, NC!  This family friendly event will be at Duke Memorial United Methodist Church, 504 W Chapel Hill St, Durham, NC 27701 on Friday, October 28, 2016 at 7:00 pm.  Admission is free and open to the public, but please come prepared to bid on pies! All funds raised during the auction go to Christian Peacemaker Teams. Introduction by CPT alum, Jonathan Wilson-Hartgrove.

Centered around a live performance of I’d Like to Buy an Enemy, starring Ted Swartz and Tim Ruebke, the show unpacks issues of justice and peace building through humorous and poignant storytelling. Peace, Pies and Prophets has been called a participatory wonder, a delicious blend of consciousness-raising and laughter, community-building at its best and just a whole lot of fun!

Since March 2012 Ted & Company has been collaborating with Christian Peacemaker Teams and various local peacemakers in the areas we’ve visited to bring the Peace Pies and Prophets tour to communities across the US and Canada, raising funds and awareness for peace. The evening includes the show I’d Like to Buy an Enemy and is interspersed with an auction of pies!

The tour is a fundraiser for Christian Peacemaker Teams and has raised over $180,000 in offerings and pie auctions in since 2012. Perhaps more importantly it has animated conversations, not just about the show, but how we might effect change in our world—to “export” peacemaking to a violent world. Using satire, humor, and storytelling, both the entertainment of the show itself and the stories of Christian Peacemakers Teams, challenges each of us to consider where we can promote change in our world, on a local and global scale.
