Event Description

Peace Pies & Prophets – Staunton, VA

Peace Pies and Prophets is on tour and coming to Staunton, VA at 7:00pm on September 7 at Trinity Episcopal Church (214 West Beverley Street), Parish Hall. Admission is FREE! Pie auction proceeds and a freewill offering will benefit the Fairfield Mediation Center of Harrisonburg, VA.

Centered around a live performance of I’d Like to Buy an Enemy , starring Ted Swartz and Tim Ruebke, the show unpacks issues of justice and peace building through humorous and poignant storytelling.

This interactive event is for people interested in engaging in laughter, thoughtful dialogue and pie. Yes, Peace Pies... The evening includes a hand crafted pie auction where pie sale proceeds will go toward the support of the Fairfield Mediation Center. In the last year, Peace Pies and Prophets has toured across North America, raising over $80,000 for peace!

In this hilarious and poignant satire we find a talking banana sharing his personal story about fair trade practices, witness the brain responding using both its rational and impulse-driven parts, and are welcomed into the shop of a persuasive salesperson who insists on our need to buy an enemy to ensure “optimistic living and comfortable maintenance of the American Dream.”

You will certainly laugh, but you will also be challenged to reflect on the biases and unjust practices that pervade the American mentality, and be energized to find creative ways to address issues of peace and justice in your communities and beyond.  It is a show that speaks across religions, denominations, generations and backgrounds, for people who aim to be the change we seek.
